Round Plush Owl

     For those who love cute things, this little owl is the perfect size to hold on your palm or attach to your bag as a keychain and be your traveling companion. You can also make a small blanket and attach him to make a lovey for your little one.

SIZE/MEASUREMENTS
approx. 3.5"height x 4.75"length

MATERIALS
*Crochet hook size: 3.5mm (E)
*Worsted Weight Yarn: Medium Gray (42yds) & White (3yds)
*Stitch Markers to mark your rounds
*Felt: White, Black & Gold
*Fiberfill
*Tapestry Needle
*Matching Thread
*Hot Glue

Double Crochet Cluster (2dc cluster) - Y/O hook, insert your hook into stitch, Y/O & pull up a loop (3 loops remaining), Y/O & pull through 2 loops (2 loops remaining), Y/O & insert your hook into same stitch, Y/O & pull up a loop (4 loops remaining), Y/O & pull through 2 loops (3 loops remaining), Y/O & pull thru the remaining three loops.

HEAD/BODY with medium gray
  Rnd 1: 6sc in magic ring (6)
  Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around (12)
  Rnd 3: sc in next st, 2sc in next st around (18)
  Rnd 4: sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st around (24)
  Rnd 5: sc in next 3 sts, 2sc in next st around (30)
  Rnd 6: sc in next 4 sts, 2sc in next st around (36)

Start stuffing the head/body moderately firm.

RIGHT-WING with medium gray

  Rnd 1: 4sc in magic ring (4)

  Rnd 2: 2sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st (6)

  Rnd 3: 2sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, 2sc in next st (8)

  Rnd 4: sc in each st around, in the last st change to white (secure the yarn ends and hide them inside the wing) (8)

There is no need to stuff the wing.

  Row 1: flatten to match up the stitches and *picot st, sl st in next st* repeat from * to * 3 more times

F/O, secure and weave in the ends.

LEFT-WING with medium gray

  Rnd 1: 4sc in magic ring (4)

  Rnd 2: sc in next st, 2sc in next 2 sts, sc in next st (6)

  Rnd 3: sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts (8)

  Rnd 4: sc in each st around, in the last st change to white (secure the yarn ends and hide them inside the wing) (8)

There is no need to stuff the wing.

  Row 1: flatten to match up the stitches and *picot st, sl st in next st* repeat from * to * 3 more times

F/O, secure and weave in the ends.

EARS with medium gray; make 2

ch3, 2 dc cluster in 3rd ch, 2ch picot st, ch2 and sl st into same st you made the cluster

F/O, leave a tail to sew. 

ASSEMBLE
     I recommend pinning the pieces in place before sewing them to make sure you have them in the position you like best before sewing. (Most people like to use the yarn at the end of the finished pieces to sew them in place, but I personally like to use matching thread).
     TIP...For anything that I’m going to be using felt, I like to first sketch it out on white paper and make a stencil of what I need. Then cut it out. Then tape the stencil to the felt and cut it out.
     WINGS...place the wings between rounds 10 and 14.

     EARS...align them with the wings and place them between rounds 4 and 5.

     BACK PART of the EYES...using white felt draw out 2 circles overlapping to create the shape I used for the back. Place between rounds 6 and 13.

     EYES...with black felt make 2 circles. Place the black eyes in the center of each overlapped circle, like in the picture below.

     BEAK...using gold or mustard felt make a rounded triangle. Place in the center of the overlapping circles.

     SPOTS...using white or color of choice embroidery floss or thread, embroider little "v" beneath the eyes in the order you like best.

LEAF starting with olive green; 2.75mm hook

  Rnd 1: ch5, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and across (4)

F/O, secure and weave in the ends. Attach the pea green yarn to the other side of the chain where we DIDN'T work the slip stitches.

  Rnd 2: ch2, dc in same st you attach, htr in next ch, dc in next ch, hdc+sc+picot st+sc+hdc in last st, other side of the foundation chains & in the back loops of the sl sts from rnd 1, dc in next st, htr in next st, dc in next st, ch2 and sl st in same st as the previous st

F/O, secure and weave in the ends.

STEM with olive green; 3.5mm hook

Fold the pipe cleaner in half and twist them together. Attach yarn to the pipe cleaner and do 7 sc around it

F/O, leave a tail to attach the leaves.

ASSEMBLE
     I recommend pinning the pieces in place before sewing them to make sure you have them in the position you like best before sewing. (Most people like to use the yarn at the end of the finished pieces to sew them in place, but I personally like to use matching thread).
     TIP...For anything that I’m going to be using felt, I like to first sketch it out on white paper and make a stencil of what I need. Then cut it out. Then tape the stencil to the felt and cut it out.
     STEM...in the center of the budding, poke a hole with your crochet hook to be able to slide the pipe cleaner through. You can also pull the ends through using your crochet hook, like in the picture below. You'll need to shape the seed again from all the pulling.

     Cut the excess parts of the pipe cleaner and hide any visible parts into the seed. Weave the end into the seed while still leaving the other end to attach the leaves in place. The top of the pipe cleaner bent it down, so the stitches won't come out. After attaching the leaves we'll hide the visible pipe cleaner by wrapping some yarn around it.

     LEAVES... sew them unto the stem. Wrap a bit of yarn to hide the excess pipe cleaner on top.

     MOUTH...this can be done however you like; the possibilities are endless. You can search online for "kawaii faces" or anything along those lines to get some ideas.

     BLUSH...you can use pink felt and make tiny circles/ovals or you can use makeup blush and apply some on each side of the eyes. You can also embroider lines with thread.

TAIL with white

  Row 1: ch6, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (5)

F/O, secure. Leaving the ends to sew the tail unto the plushie. 

ASSEMBLE
     I recommend pinning the pieces in place before sewing them to make sure you have them in the position you like best before sewing. (Most people like to use the yarn at the end of the finished pieces to sew them in place, but I personally like to use matching thread).

     FEET...if you have not already stuff them lightly. Place them between rounds 15 and 17; approx 1.25" apart.

     ARMS...no need to stuff them. Align them to the feet and place them on rounds 11 and 12. 

     HORNS...no need to stuff them. Place them between rounds 4 and 5 or in the position you like best.

     EARS...place them right behind the horns; between rounds 5 and 7. Fold the top part of the ear down to give it the droopy look. Sew the folded part for it to stay in place.

     ADDING HAIR to the TAIL...with black yarn cut 2 strands (4" length each). Fold a strand in half and pass it through one end of the tail and pull through a loop, pull tight. Repeat with the remaining strand. Now that we have added all the strands of hair to the tail, using a comb or wire brush and start combing every strand of hair. This would make it look like fur. Finally, trim to the desired length.

     TAIL to BODY...try to find the middle and place it in round 15 over on the back of the body.

     SNOUT...using cream felt, make a small oval. With black embroidery floss or thread, embroider 2 slanted lines in the middle for the nostrils. Place it between rounds 10 and 13.

     EYES...with black felt make 2 circles and with white make 2 much smaller circles. Place the black eyes between rounds 7 and 8; approx 0.75" apart. The white circles will be placed on the upper part of the black eyes.

     SPOTS...using black felt cut out different shapes. Place them around the body, in the position you like best.

     BLUSH...using pink embroidery floss or thread, embroider a line underneath the eye for the blush. You can also use pink felt and make a tiny circle or you can use makeup blush and apply some using a q-tip.

     EYES...I am using the rounded domed buttons since I have no crafts stores around my area that sell safety eyes. I will be placing them between round 8 and 9; approx. 1" apart.

     SMILE...using black thread or embroidery floss, embroider a smile on round 11.

     OPTIONAL…you can add a little blush underneath the eyes using makeup blush and a q-tip. Or embroider them using pink embroidery floss or thread.

     EYEBROWS...using black thread or embroidery floss, embroider them just right above the eyes on round 7. You can make these however you like, but I simply made a slanted line.

ch/s:chain/s || f/o: finish off || hdc: half double crochet || rnd: round || sc: single crochet

sc2tog: single crochet 2 stitches together || sl st: slip stitch || st/s: stitch/es
