Round Plush Bat

     For those who love cute things, this little bat is the perfect size to hold on your palm or attach to your bag as a keychain and be your traveling companion. You can also make a small blanket and attach him to make a lovey for your little one.

SIZE/MEASUREMENTS
approx. 3.75"height x 8" length wings spread (3" length without wings spread)

MATERIALS
*Crochet hook size: 3.5mm (E)
*Worsted Weight Yarn: Warm Gray (56yds) & Charcoal Gray (5yds)
*Stitch Markers to mark your rounds

*10mm Safety Eyes  
*Fiberfill
*Tapestry Needle
*Matching Thread

PATTERN NOTES - must-read...
 Numbers in ( ) at the end of each round/row indicate the total number of stitches.
 Always use stitch markers to mark your rounds.
 There's no need to sl st and/or ch when going to the next round unless stated to do so.

SPECIAL STITCHES

3 Chain Picot Stitch - ch3, insert hook into the 3rd chain from hook, y/o & draw up the yarn through all the loops.

HEAD/BODY with warm gray
  Rnd 1: 6sc in magic ring (6)

  Rnd 5: sc in next 3 sts, 2sc in next st around (30)

F/O, secure and weave in the ends.

ASSEMBLE
     I recommend pinning the pieces in place before sewing them to make sure you have them in the position you like best before sewing. (Most people like to use the yarn at the end of the finished pieces to sew them in place, but I personally like to use matching thread).
     TIP...For anything that I’m going to be using felt, I like to first sketch it out on white paper and make a stencil of what I need. Then cut it out. Then tape the stencil to the felt and cut it out.

     EYES...I used safety eyes. If you have no craft stores around your area that sell safety eyes you can use doomed buttons or black felt. Placement for them is between rounds 9 and 10; approx. 5 stitches apart (1").
     WINGS...find the center on the back of the head/body and place the wings between rounds 8 and 13.

     EARS...flatten the ears out there's no need to stuff them. The increased part will be facing towards the outside. Place ears between rounds 3 and 7.

     FEET...lightly stuff them. The hdc section will be facing towards the outside. Place between rounds 15 and 17.

     MOUTH & FANGS…using black embroidery floss, embroider a mouth and with white the fangs.

ch3, 2 dc cluster in 3rd ch, 2ch picot st, ch2 and sl st into same st you made the cluster

ASSEMBLE
     I recommend pinning the pieces in place before sewing them to make sure you have them in the position you like best before sewing. (Most people like to use the yarn at the end of the finished pieces to sew them in place, but I personally like to use matching thread).

     BACK PART of the EYES...using white felt draw out 2 circles overlapping to create the shape I used for the back. Place between rounds 6 and 13.

     EYES...with black felt make 2 circles. Place the black eyes in the center of each overlapped circle, like in the picture below.

     BEAK...using gold or mustard felt make a rounded triangle. Place in the center of the overlapping circles.

     SPOTS...using white or color of choice embroidery floss or thread, embroider little "v" beneath the eyes in the order you like best.

ASSEMBLE

     FEET...if you have not already stuff them lightly. Place them between rounds 15 and 17; approx 1.25" apart.

     ARMS...no need to stuff them. Align them to the feet and place them on rounds 11 and 12. 

     HORNS...no need to stuff them. Place them between rounds 4 and 5 or in the position you like best.

     EARS...place them right behind the horns; between rounds 5 and 7. Fold the top part of the ear down to give it the droopy look. Sew the folded part for it to stay in place.

     ADDING HAIR to the TAIL...with black yarn cut 2 strands (4" length each). Fold a strand in half and pass it through one end of the tail and pull through a loop, pull tight. Repeat with the remaining strand. Now that we have added all the strands of hair to the tail, using a comb or wire brush and start combing every strand of hair. This would make it look like fur. Finally, trim to the desired length.

     TAIL to BODY...try to find the middle and place it in round 15 over on the back of the body.

     SNOUT...using cream felt, make a small oval. With black embroidery floss or thread, embroider 2 slanted lines in the middle for the nostrils. Place it between rounds 10 and 13.

     EYES...with black felt make 2 circles and with white make 2 much smaller circles. Place the black eyes between rounds 7 and 8; approx 0.75" apart. The white circles will be placed on the upper part of the black eyes.

     SPOTS...using black felt cut out different shapes. Place them around the body, in the position you like best.

     BLUSH...using pink embroidery floss or thread, embroider a line underneath the eye for the blush. You can also use pink felt and make a tiny circle or you can use makeup blush and apply some using a q-tip.

ASSEMBLE
     I recommend pinning the pieces in place before sewing them to make sure you have them in the position you like best before sewing. (Most people like to use the yarn at the end of the finished pieces to sew them in place, but I personally like to use matching thread).
     TIP...For anything that I am going to be using felt, I like to first sketch it out on a white paper and make a stencil of what I need. Then cut it out. Then tape the stencil to the felt and cut it out.
     SOMBRERO...add any stuffing needed and sew the cover to the bottom of the sombrero to close the opening.

On the brim of the sombrero embroider anything you like; I simply use green embroidery floss and made a zig-zag line all around.

     SPIKES...place it between round 5 and all the way to the back of round 16.

     FEET...try to find the position you like best. I place mine between round 17 and 18; approx. 0.50" apart. Only sew the 2 last rows from the feet (the flat area) to the body.

     ARMS...there is no need to stuff them. Align them with the feet and place them on round 11 and 12.

     SNOUT...stuff it lightly. Find the center of the front of the head/body and place it between round 11 and 12.

Using black embroidery floss or thread, embroider a nose on the tip of the snout.

     EARS...there is no need to stuff them. Place them between round 6 and 8.

     EYES...I'm using the rounded domed buttons since I have no crafts stores around my area that sell safety eyes. I'll be placing them between round 8 and 9; approx. 1.25" apart.

     BLUSH...using pink embroidery floss or thread, embroider a line underneath the eye for the blush. You can also use pink felt and make a tiny circle or you can use makeup blush and apply some using a q-tip.
     MOUTH...using black embroidery floss or thread, create the mouth on the snout. Make it however you like, the possibilities are endless.
