Kuromi Beanie (knit)

    Simple but yet very stylish; for boys and girls of all ages. You can comfortably wear it during any season, depending on the yarn you used and the weather, of course. This is an easy-to-knit beanie if you know the basics: knit, purl, and k2tog.

SIZE/MEASUREMENTS
Child (6yrs - 10yrs) [19" to 20" head circumference]
Teen/Small Adult [20" to 21" head circumference]

Adult (men) [21" to 23" head circumference]

MATERIALS
*Worsted Weight Yarn: Main Color & a small amount of darker/light pink for the skull
*DPN's or Circular Needles: 4.5mm & 5.0mm
*Stitch Marker to mark your rounds
*Tapestry Needle

GAUGE
Using 5.0mm needles...  4.5 stitches x  6 rows = 1"
Don't forget to check your gauge.

PATTERN NOTES
  This pattern can either be knitted when making the hat or duplicate stitched on afterward; the choice is yours. Here's a great video on how to duplicate stitch: HERE.

STARTING the BEANIE

CO 80 (90, 90) sts on 4.5mm needles with main color yarn.

Place a marker and join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.

Do ribbing (k1, p1) for 1 inch (approx. 6 rounds).

Change to larger needles and proceed knitting for 4 (4.5, 5) inches. This will give you approx. 27 (32, 37) rounds. Please follow the graph to determine which rows to apply the color changes.

SHAPING the CROWN

  Rnd 1: k8, k2tog around

  Rnd 2 and all even rounds: knit around

  Rnd 3: k7, k2tog around

  Rnd 5: k6, k2tog around

  Rnd 7: k5, k2tog around

  Rnd 9: k4, k2tog around

  Rnd 11: k3, k2tog around

  Rnd 13: k2, k2tog around

  Rnd 15: k1, k2tog around

  Rnd 17: k2tog around

Leave a tail (up to 8"). You will use a tapestry needle to thread the tail through the last remaining stitches on your needle. After removing the needles from the stitches, pull tightly to close the top hole. Lastly, hide the tail inside and weave it in.

NOTE: The ears are worked all in one piece and then folded in half.

EARS starting with lilac or black; make 2

CO 2 stitches with the 5.0mm needles

Cast off on row 37. Weave in the ends. Fold the ear in half along row 19. Using the 3.75mm (F) crochet hook, single crochet along the entire ear to close it off. F/O, weave in all ends. Another method you can use if you're not comfortable crocheting, use a tapestry needle and whip stitch along the entire ear to close it off.

ASSEMBLE
     I recommend pinning the pieces before sewing them to make sure you have them in the position you like best before sewing.

     EARS...lay out the beanie flat and find the position you like best.

GAUGE

3 hdc stitches x 2.5 rows = 1"

At the end of round 8, laying flat = 6.25" in diameter

Pull the unfolded ends through the loop and pull tight. Braid the strands and tie a knot to secure the braid. Complete the second braid the same way.

ASSEMBLE
     I recommend pinning the pieces before sewing them to make sure you have them in the position you like best before sewing.

     EARS...lay out the beanie flat and find the position you like best. Place them between rounds 4 and 7 for the toddler size.

For the child/adult size, place them between rounds 5 and 8.

     SKULL...find the center of the beanie and place it above the single crochet rounds (edging).

     The placement of the soot sprites and stars is completely up to your preference. Feel free to get creative with their arrangement.

     When sewing the soot sprites, be sure to embroider the little motion lines around them for added detail and character.

     For the eyes, I used small circles of white felt. The pupils were made using black embroidery floss using French knots. Once the eyes are complete, simply glue them onto the soot sprites.

Using 5.0mm needles...  4.5 stitches x  6 rows = 1"
Don't forget to check your gauge.

PATTERN NOTES
  This pattern can either be knitted when making the hat or duplicate stitched on afterward; the choice is yours. Here's a great video on how to duplicate stitch: HERE.

STARTING the BEANIE

CO 80 (90, 90) sts on 4.5mm needles with main color yarn.

Place a marker and join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.

Do ribbing (k1, p1) for 1 inch (approx. 6 rounds).

Change to larger needles and proceed knitting for 4 (4.5, 5) inches. This will give you approx. 27 (32, 37) rounds. Please follow the graph to know in which rows to do the color changes.

SHAPING the CROWN

  Rnd 1: k8, k2tog around

  Rnd 2 and all even rounds: knit around

  Rnd 3: k7, k2tog around

  Rnd 5: k6, k2tog around

  Rnd 7: k5, k2tog around

  Rnd 9: k4, k2tog around

  Rnd 11: k3, k2tog around

  Rnd 13: k2, k2tog around

  Rnd 15: k1, k2tog around

  Rnd 17: k2tog around

Leave a tail (up to 8"). You will use a tapestry needle to thread the tail through the last remaining stitches on your needle. After removing the needles from the stitches, pull tightly to close the top hole. Lastly, hide the tail inside and weave it in.

Round Plush No Face

     For those who love cute things, No Face is the perfect size to hold on your palm or attach to your bag as a keychain and be your traveling companion. You can also make a small blanket and attach him to make a lovey for your little one.

SIZE/MEASUREMENTS
approx. 3"height x 3.25"length

MATERIALS
*Crochet hook size: 3.5mm (E)
*Worsted Weight Yarn: Black (36yds)
*Stitch Markers to mark your rounds
*Felt: White, Black & Purple
*Fiberfill
*Tapestry Needle
*Matching Thread
*Hot Glue

PATTERN NOTES - must-read...

ASSEMBLE
     I recommend pinning the pieces in place before sewing them to make sure you have them in the position you like best before sewing. (Most people like to use the yarn at the end of the finished pieces to sew them in place, but I personally like to use matching thread).
     TIP...For anything that I am going to be using felt, I like to first sketch it out on a white paper and make a stencil of what I need. Then cut it out. Then tape the stencil to the felt and cut it out.
     FACE...make an oval shape using white felt. DON'T glue it unto the body just yet.
     EYES...Using black felt make 2 small circles for the eyes.
Using purple felt make 2 short triangles (for the top) and 2 longer triangles (for the bottom). Glue in place the eyes and triangles to the oval piece.
Using black embroidery floss or thread, embroider a line between the eye and bottom triangle.
     MOUTH...using black embroidery floss or thread, embroider a line for the mouth. Below the mouth create a smaller line with purple embroidery floss or thread.

     ARMS...there is no need to stuff them. Place them between round 11 and 12.

     FACE to the BODY...place it in the center of the body between the arms.

  Rnd 2: ch2, dc in same st you attach, htc in next ch, dc in next ch, hdc+sc+picot st+sc+hdc in last st, other side of the foundation chains & in the back loops of the sl sts from rnd 1, dc in next st, htc in next st, dc in next st, ch2 and sl st in same st as the previous st
F/O, secure and weave in the ends.


ASSEMBLE

     TUMMY SPOT...with white felt make a circle with a diameter of 2.75". Using light gray thread or embroidery floss, make the marks on his tummy. Place it between round 12 and 18.

     FEET...try to find the position you like best. I place mine between round 17 and 18; approx. 1/2" apart. They'll be overlapping the tummy spot by a little bit on the sides. Only sew the 2 last rows from the feet (the flat area) to the body.

     EARS...there's no need to stuff them, simply flatten them out. Place them between round 3 and 5.

     ARMS...there's no need to stuff them. Align them with the feet and ears. Place them in round 11 and 12.

     TAIL...if you haven't already, stuff it lightly. Find the center of the back of the body and place it between round 14 and 16. You'll want the part that we did the increases to be facing down.

     LEAF...place it on top of the head/body, right between the ears. There's no need to completely sew it in place, just sew the ch5 we made with the olive green yarn.

     NOSE...using black felt make a small oval. Find the center of the body and place in between round 10 and 11.

     EYES...using white felt make 2 circles and another 2 using black felt but make these much smaller. Place the white circles on round 9 and 10; approx. 0.75" apart. The tiny black circles go on the top of the white circles.

     WHISKERS...with black yarn or embroidery floss, embroider them right beneath the eyes.
