Dragonfly Applique

Ideas on how to use these appliques...
*These would be great to apply to any project.
*You can add them to kitchen towels,
*turn them into a keychain or fridge magnet.
*You can also make several and make a garland.
*Attach a ribbon to make them into bookmarks.
*Add them to the front of a homemade card.

SIZE/MEASUREMENTS
approx. 3"height x 2.75"length
...but can vary based on yarn and hook size.

MATERIALS
*Crochet hook size: 3.25mm (D)
*Worsted Weight Yarn: color of choice (5yds)
*Tapestry Needle

PATTERN NOTES - must-read...
 Numbers in ( ) at the end of each round/row indicate the total number of stitches.
 The chain, in the beginning, does NOT count as one stitch unless stated otherwise.
 You slip stitch on the first sc, not on top of the chain 1.

ABDOMEN & THORAX with color of choice
  Row 1: ch13, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (12)
  Row 2: ch3, 2dc in last st from the previous row, turn, sl st into 3rd ch
Do not F/O, continue working the head.

HEAD with color of choice
Turn, ch3, sl st into the sl st from the previous row
F/O and secure and weave in the ends.


Note: You will be attaching the yarn where the black lines are in the picture. The chain 3 and dc created gaps there.
TOP WINGS with color of choice
ch7, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 4 chs, sc in last ch, sl st where we attach the yarn (6)
F/O and secure and weave in the ends.

Note: Attach the yarn underneath the same gaps where the top wings were made. 
BOTTOM WINGS with color of choice
ch5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 2 chs, sc in last ch, sl st where we attach the yarn (4)
F/O and secure and weave in the ends.


GLOSSARY:
ch/s: chain/s || dc: double crochet || f/o: finish off || hdc: half double crochet
sc: single crochet || sl st: slip stitch || st/s: stitch/es

  3. Hello, I'm attempting this dragonfly, it's my favorite from all of the ones I've seen online so far.. I am kind of muddled where the top wings are supposed to attach to complete, do you happen to have a video tutorial on this? It would be so helpful to me and to those who learn in a more visual way.. thank you so very much for making this available, I love a lot of your patterns :)

  6. Thanks for this pattern. I was able to make all 4 wings without breaking off by removing the hook and catching the loop from the back. Used one black strand to embroider eyes then tie at back and cut for the 2 antennas.
