BRAIDS
Cut 18 pieces of yarn (9 for each earflap) about 36 inches long. Fold each bunch in half, then push the folded end through an opening at the bottom of each earflap. Pull the unfolded ends through the loop and pull tight. Braid the strands and tie a knot to secure the braid. Complete the second braid the same way.
ASSEMBLE
F/O, leave a long tail for sewing.
EARS with black & yellow, make 2 of each color; 3.75mm (F)
Row 1: ch4, sc in 2nd ch from hook and next ch, 5sc in last ch, other side of the foundation chains, sc in next 2 chs, ch1, turn (9)
Rnd 2: hdc in next 3 sts, 2sc in next st, 3sc in next st, 2sc in next st, hdc in next 3 sts, ch1, turn (13)
Rnd 3: hdc in next 4 sts, 2sc in the next 2 sts, 3sc in next st, 2sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 4 sts (19)
F/O, secure, and weave in the ends for the yellow piece. For the black piece, DO NOT finish off. Place both pieces together with the wrong sides facing each other, and single crochet around the entire piece. In the corners, work 2 single crochets, and in the center top st, work sc+ch1+sc. Join with an invisible join to the 1st st.
BRAIDS
Cut 18 pieces of yarn (9 for each earflap) about 36 inches long. Fold each bunch in half, then push the folded end through an opening at the bottom of each earflap. Pull the unfolded ends through the loop and pull tight. Braid the strands and tie a knot to secure the braid. Complete the second braid the same way.
ASSEMBLE
I recommend pinning the pieces before sewing them to make sure you have them in the position you like best before sewing.
EYES...place them between rounds 8 and 13, approx 1.75" (4.44cm) apart for the toddler size.For the child/small adult size, place them between rounds 9 and 14, approximately 1.75" (4.44 cm) apart.
PUPILS...place them wherever you like best.
NOSE...place it in the center of the eyes, between rounds 13 and 14 for the toddler size..
For the child/adult size, place it between rounds 14 and 15.
EARS...lay out the beanie flat and find the position you like best. For the toddler size, I placed them between rounds 4 and 7.
For the child/adult size, place them between rounds 5 and 8.
