Carrot Applique

By Janet Carrillo "damn it Janet, let's crochet!"

Ideas on how to use these appliques...
*These would be great to apply to any project.
*You can add them to kitchen towels,
*turn them into a keychain or fridge magnet.
*You can also make several and make a garland.
*Attach a ribbon to make them into bookmarks.

approx. size: 3"H x 1.25"W
...but can vary based on yarn and hook size

*Crochet hook size: 3.25mm (D)
*Worsted weight yarn: Orange (8yds) & Green (3yds)
*Stitch Markers to mark your rounds
*Tapestry Needle
*Embroidery Floss: Black
*Felt: Black
*Wite-out pencil (optional)
*Hot Glue (optional)
*Magnet (optional)

Numbers in ( ) at the end of each round/row indicate the total number of stitches.
Always use stitch markers to mark your rounds.
You ALWAYS do the first stitch where you sl st from the previous round.
The ch2, at the beginning don’t count as a stitch.

Other side of the foundation chains - this VIDEO explains how to do this technique.

CARROT with orange
Rnd 1: ch10, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 chs, hdc in next 3 chs, dc in next 2 chs, 6dc in last ch, other side of the foundations chains dc in next 2 chs, hdc in next 3 chs, sc in next 3 chs, sl st into 1st st (22)
Rnd 2: ch1, sc in next 10 sts, 2sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 10 sts, sl st into 1st st (24)
F/O, secure and weave in the ends.

STEM with green
Attach the green yarn on the 13th st and ch 5, sl st into 2nd ch from hook and across.
ch 6, sl st into 2nd ch from hook and across.
ch 6, sl st into 2nd ch from hook and across.
Finally sl st into the 13th st again and you should have 3 leaves.
F/O, secure and weave in the ends
EYES...with black felt, make 2 small circles for the eyes. If you have a hole puncher, use that it makes perfect little eyes. With white thread make little circles in the middle. (If you find it difficult to make them with white thread you can use a wite-out pencil). Glue the eyes in place.
SMILE...with black embroidery floss or thread, embroider the smile.

TIPS: You can play around with the eyes and mouth, make them anyway you like, the possibilities are endless. You can find lots of cute ideas by searching online anything between the lines of “kawaii face”.
You can also add a little blush underneath the eyes with a q-tip.

ch/s:chain/s || sc: single crochet || hdc: half double crochet || dc: double crochet || sl st: slip stitch
st/s: stitch/es || rnd: round || f/o: finish off
