SIZE/MEASUREMENTS
Sandcastle: 3"length x 3.5"height
Pail: 2"length x 2" height
Shovel: 2" height
...but they can vary based on yarn and hook size.
MATERIALS
*Crochet hook size: 3.0mm & 3.5mm (E)
*Worsted weight yarn: Beige (1yd), Blue (5yds), Cream (10yds), Red (1yd), White (2yds) & Yellow (3yds)
*Tapestry Needle
PATTERN NOTES - must read...
Numbers in ( ) at the end of each round/row indicate the total number of stitches.
Always use stitch markers to mark your rounds.
There's no need to sl st and/or ch when going to the next round unless stated to do so.
Always do the 1st stitch where you slip stitch from the previous round.
The chain in the beginning does NOT count as one stitch unless stated otherwise.
You slip stitch on the first sc not on top of the chain 1.
SPECIAL STITCHES/TECHNIQUE
Picot Stitch - ch3, insert hook into the 3rd chain from hook, y/o & draw up the yarn through all the loops.
SAND CASTLE with cream; 3.5mm
Row 1: ch16, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, turn (15)
Row 2-4: ch1, sc in each st across, turn (15)
Row 5: front loops only for this round only ch1, *sc, picot in next st, sl st in next 2 sts* repeat from * to * all the way across
F/O, secure and weave in the ends.
Row 6: back loops only for this round only attach yarn with a sc on the 3rd st of the back loops from rnd 5. sc in next 10 sts (11)
Row 7-9: sc in each sc across, turn (11)
Row 10: front loops only for this round only ch1, *sc, picot in next st, sl st in next 2 sts* repeat from * to * all the way across but you will only be doing one sl st at the end
F/O, secure and weave in the ends.
Row 11: back loops only for this round only attach yarn with a sc on the 4rd st of the back loops from rnd 10. sc in next 4 sts (5)
Row 12-13: sc in each st across, turn (5)
Row 14: back loops only for this round only ch1, *sc, picot in next st, sl st in next 2 sts* repeat from * to * all the way across but you will only be doing one sl st at the end
F/O, secure and weave in the ends. Using beige yarn, embroider the door and window slits.
FLAG for the CASTLE with red, 3.5mm
Attach the red yarn on the 3rd st from the unworked loops of round 13.
ch7, place a stitch marker on the 4th ch from hook, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, ch4, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sl st where we place the stitch marker, sl st in each of the next 3 chs, sl st where we the attach yarn.
F/O, secure and weave in the ends.
PAIL with blue, 3.0mm
Row 1: ch6, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, turn (5)
Row 2: ch1, 2sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, turn (6)
Row 3: ch1, sc in each st across, turn (6)
Row 4: ch1, sc in next 5 sts, 2sc in next st, turn (7)
Row 5: ch1, sc in each st across, turn (7)
Row 6: ch1, 2sc in next st, sc in next 6 sts, turn (8)
Row 7: ch1, sc in each st across, turn (8)
Row 8: ch1, 2sc in next st, sc in next 7 sts, turn (9)
Row 9: ch1, sc in each st actoss (9)
Row 10: ch3, sc down the side of the pail, sc across the bottom of the pail, sc up the other side of the pail, ch3, sl st across the top of the pail
F/O, secure and weave in the ends. Optional: use yellow yard to embroider lines on the pail.
HANDLE for the PAIL with white, 3.0mm
With the right side of pail facing you, attach yarn with a sc on the right hand-side on the ch3 space, ch15, sc in the left hand side on the ch3 space
F/O, secure and weave in the ends.
SHOVEL with yellow, 3.0mm
ch4, sl st into the first ch you made to form a ring
Top part of the shovel: ch1, 10sc in ring, ch5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, sl st into 1st st
F/O, secure and weave in the ends.
Bottom part of the shovel: ch4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, 4dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch
F/O, secure and weave in the ends. Sew the bottom part to the handle.
