Narwhal Applique

Ideas on how to use these appliques...
*These would be great to apply to any project.
*You can add them to kitchen towels,
*turn them into a keychain or fridge magnet.
*You can also make several and make a garland.
*Attach a ribbon to make them into bookmarks.
*Add them to the front of a homemade card.

SIZE/MEASUREMENTS
approx. 3.5"height x 2"length
...but can vary based on yarn and hook size.

MATERIALS
*Crochet hook size: 3.5mm (E)
*Worsted Weight Yarn: Teal or color of choice (8yds)
*Stitch Markers to mark your rounds
*Felt: White, Black & Gold
*Tapestry Needle
*Matching Thread
*Hot Glue
*Makeup Blush & Q-tip (optional)

PATTERN NOTES - must-read...
 Numbers in ( ) at the end of each round/row indicate the total number of stitches.
 Always use stitch markers to mark your rounds.
 There's no need to sl st and/or ch when going to the next round unless stated to do so.
 Always do the 1st stitch where you slip stitch from the previous round.
 The chain, in the beginning, does NOT count as one stitch unless stated otherwise.
 You slip stitch on the first sc, not on top of the chain 1.

Note: when you see a + sign it means all those stitches are supposed to be done in that one particular stitch.
NARWHAL with teal
  Rnd 1: ch10, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc2tog, sc in next ch, hdc in next 3 chs, dc in next ch, 6dc in last ch, other side of the foundation chains dc in next ch, hdc in next 3 chs, sc in next ch, 2sc in next 2 chs, sc in next ch, ch6, turn your work, hdc+hdc+dc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in next 2 chs, ch3, turn your work, hdc+hdc+dc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in same st between both fins (see pictures below to know where), sl st in next ch (23)

  Rnd 2: sl st in next 3 sts, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, 3hdc in next st, 3dc in next st, 2dc in next st, hdc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 4 sts, sl st in next 5 sts, join to the next st with the invisible join (29)
F/O, secure and weave in the ends. 

FINS with teal
Attach the yarn on the 7th st but on the front loop, ch3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc+sl st in same st you attached the yarn in
F/O, secure and weave in the ends.
Attach the yarn on the 21st st but on the front loop, sl st+hdc in same st you attach, ch3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, sl st in same st you attach
F/O, secure and weave in the ends.


ASSEMBLE
     I recommend pinning the pieces in place before sewing them to make sure you have them in the position you like best before sewing. (Most people like to use the yarn at the end of the finished pieces to sew them in place, but I personally like to use matching thread).
     TIP...For anything that I’m going to be using felt, I like to first sketch it out on a white paper and make a stencil of what I need. Then cut it out. Then tape the stencil to the felt and cut it out.
     TUMMY SPOT...using white felt or your color of choice, make a heart and place it in the position you like best.
     HORN...using gold felt make a triangle and place it on the top center.
     EYES...using black felt make 2 tiny little circles and place them in the position you like best.
     MOUTH...using black embroidery floss or thread, create the mouth. Make it however you like, the possibilities are endless.
     CHEEKS...you can use pink felt and make tiny circles or you can use makeup blush and apply some on each side of the eyes using a q-tip.

ch/s:chain/s || sc: single crochet || hdc: half double crochet || dc: double crochet || sl st: slip stitch
st/s: stitch/es || sc2tog: single crochet 2 stitches together || rnd: round || f/o: finish off
