Halloween Applique: Vampire Bat

Ideas on how to use these appliques...
*These would be great to apply to any project.
*You can add them to kitchen towels,
*turn them into a keychain or fridge magnet.
*You can also make several and make a garland.
*Attach a ribbon to make them into bookmarks.

SIZE/MEASUREMENTS
approx. 1.25"height x 3"length widest point
...but they can vary based on yarn and hook size.

MATERIALS
*Crochet hook size: 3.5mm (E)
*Worsted weight yarn: Black (5yds)
*Stitch Markers to mark your rounds
*Felt: White
*Sharpie: Black
*Tapestry Needle
*Hot Glue

PATTERN NOTES - must read...
 Numbers in ( ) at the end of each round/row indicate the total number of stitches.
 Always use stitch markers to mark your rounds.
 There's no need to sl st and/or ch when going to the next round unless stated to do so.

SPECIAL STITCHES
 Picot Stitch - ch3, insert hook into the 3rd chain from hook, y/o & draw up the yarn through all the loops.
 Invisible join - this VIDEO explains how to do this technique.

BODY with black
  Rnd 1: 7hdc in magic ring, sl st into 1st st (7)
  Rnd 2: 2hdc in next 2 sts, 3hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st, 3hdc in next st, 2hdc in next 2 sts, sl st into 1st st (16)
  Rnd 3: sk 1st st, sl st in 2nd st, picot st, sl st in next 12 sts, picot st, sl st in next 2 sts, join to 1st st with the invisible join
F/O, secure and weave in the ends.

WING with black
Attach yarn on the back loop of the 4th st of the body.
ch7, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc+picot st+dc in next st, sc in next st, hdc+picot st+hdc in next st, sc in next st, sl st where you attach yarn
F/O, secure and weave in the ends.

Attach yarn on the back loop of the 13th st of the body.
ch7, turn your work upside down so you are working on the bottom loops of the chains like in the pictures below, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc+picot st+dc in next st, sc in next st, hdc+picot st+hdc in next st, sc in next st, sl st where you attach yarn
F/O, secure and weave in the ends.

ASSEMBLE
     EYES...using white felt, make 2 large circles and before gluing them in place, with a black sharpie make little pupils right in the center of the eye.
